Irresistible-CHAPTER THREE
"Brian who?"
"Cut the crap Adrianne. I'm your husband."
"You could've fooled me. A husband doesn't leave his wife in the middle of the night and decide to run off for a month. Why the hell did you leave anyway?"
"I told you in the letter, I just gotta get away for awhile."
"That's not a good reason Bri."
"Well it's gonna have to be for now. Anyway, where are you? I tried calling the house but I got the answering machine."
"I'm at a friends house."
"Well, you should be home. There's plenty of cleaning you could do."
"Do it yourself!"
"What?"
"You heard me. If you want the house cleaned so bad, get your lazy ass back and do it!"
"Who are you calling lazy? I'm the one who actually works."
"Damn it Brian, you know I want to get a job. I wanted to go to college and study psychology. But oh no, you insisted I stay home and do nothing but cook and clean for you."
"Listen, I don't wanna argue with you Adri. I'll call you in a couple days."
"Fine"
"I love you"
"Whatever"
Nick got out of the pool, "I never knew you wanted to go to college."
"Yeah well, there's alot of things I wanted to do." Adrianne said sadly.
"Why did you let Brian stop you from going to college?"
"Because" Adrianne sighed, "At the time I loved Brian so much that I'd do anything to make him happy. Even if that meant giving up my dreams."
Nick was curious, "What are you saying Adrianne? You don't love Brian anymore?"
Adrianne stood up, "Nick, can we not talk about this? Please?"
"Ok. I'm sorry." Nick said.
They went back into the house. Nick had rented Save The Last Dance.
"This is my favorite movie!" Adrianne said.
"I know." Nick replied, "That's why I got it. Do want some dinner?"
"Ok" Adrianne said. She got up and headed toward the kitchen.
"What are you doing?" Nick questioned, "I can make my own food. I'm not Brian."
Since Adrianne and Nick weren't that hungry, they decided to just share a bowl of popcorn.
Nick was having fun throwing the popcorn in the air and trying to make it land in his mouth.
Adrianne rolled her eyes, "Your REAL mature."
Nick laughed, "Yeah I know."
Adrianne leaned back against Nick. Nick smiled and wrapped his arms around Adrianne's waist. They fell asleep a few minutes later.
*THE NEXT MORNING*
Nick woke up first. Not wanting to wake up Adrianne, he didn't dare move. He sat there stairing at her. Nick began to think back to Adrianne and Brian's wedding day. He should've stoped it and told Adrianne how he felt then.
"There's alot of things I should've done. If only I had stoped the wedding. Then Adrianne would be my wife right now."
Adrianne woke up a few minutes later. She smiled at Nick.
"Do you mind if I use your shower?" Adrianne asked.
"Of course not." Nick said.
Adrianne went upstairs and steped into the shower. The warm water felt good against her skin. She began to have these flashes in her head, kind of like a daydream.
It was of her and Nick making out. It felt so real that Adrianne moaned out his name loudly.
Nick opened the bathroom door and stuck his head in, his eyes closed, "Is everything ok Adri?"
"Yeah Nick" Adrianne said, "I'm alright."
"Why am I acting like this? Nick is my best friend! I don't love him like that... or do i? I dunno. I'm so confused!!"
After Adrianne got out of the shower, she decided to call her sister Emily who lived just on the other side of town. Emily was six years younger than Adrianne, but they were as close as sisters could get.
"Hello?"
"Hi Em!"
"Hey Adri! What's up?"
"Not much. Just hanging out with Nick."
"It's nine o'clock in the morning. What are you doing at Nick's house so early?"
"I spent the night."
"You what?"
"Yeah. I'm spending the whole month here."
"Wow, how does Brian feel about this?"
"He doesn't know"
"What? How could he not know?"
"Well, Brian decided he needed some time away, so he left me in the middle of the night to go to Kentucky."
"Have you and Brian been fighting alot?"
"Lately, it's been worse."
"Has he hit you?"
"No, Bri's just really controlling. I bet when I go back to the house to check the answering machine there will be like, 100 messages from him"
"Just dump Brian!"
"It's not that simple Emily. You're just a child. You don't understand these things."
"I'm not a child. I'm 16 years old! Look, just because your marriage is falling apart doesn't mean you have to take it out on me."
"That was harsh..."
"God... I'm sorry. I didn't mean that Adrianne."
"I know"
"I just want you to be happy. You should divorce Brian and be with Nick since it's obvious you're in love with him."
"I am not! Not in the way you're thinking of anyway. I love Nick in a friend kinda way."
"Yeah right! you love Nick in the I-wanna-throw-him-on-my-bed-and-fuck-his-brians-out kind of way."
"BRIAN's my husband. And like it or not he's your brother-in-law."
"Unfourtanatly... Adrianne, no matter what you say I know you're in love with Nick. I see the way you look at him and he looks at you."
"I don't wanna discuss this anymore. I gotta go anyway. I'll talk to ya later."
"K. Bye"
Adrianne sighed. Emily was right- she was in love with Nick. She just didn't wanna admit it."
