Directions: Write a scene that builds into a song. Have the song heighten the moment, not push it. Make sure it fits in, and doesn't stand out.
Curtains up, light up.
SETTING: JACK is sitting at a table, which is only partially on stage. Throughout the scene, unless otherwise noted, he is speaking to someone off-stage.
(MAIA comes on stage. JACK does not turn around or show the slightest hint of noticing her.)
(singing; to the tune of "Smash the Mirror", from The Who’s Tommy)
You don’t even care
If I am dead or alive
Do you wish that
I was never even born?
I don’t think you even know
How much it hurts to feel ignored
The angry burning is building inside me...
Will you listen?
Or must I force you
To face me, come on
And endure my
Fury
Fury
Fury
Fury
Fury...
I’m going to explode
Won’t you talk to me?
I’m going to explode
Won’t you talk to me?
(MAIA attacks JACK, knocking him out of his chair and onto the floor. He gets up, slowly picks up his chair, sits back down, and then turns to MAIA.)
(She storms off. JACK shrugs and turns back to face off-stage.)
(Curtain down)
