FIRE EATER

"She's kissing the fire eater"

They said

And I was.

The blaze leapt from his tongue to mine

Heating my mouth

And the rest of me

With his passion

and my own sprung up in kind.

Even softened by sweetness and ice

The flames licked

At me

Threatening

Immolation

Promising

Catharsis

Which road to choose?

I tasted the embers on my tongue

As we parted,

Wanting more

Even though it burned

And my mouth

(and the rest of me)

felt singed.

I walk the coals now

And wonder what awaits me

At the end of this charcoal path.
