KITTY

(For Mistletoe)

I knew we were for each other

When I saw you

Me with my magenta hair and wild makeup

You with your shaved and scabby face

And you knew I was for you too,

I know.

Your glee was evident in

The vibrations of your throat

And your claws in the back of my jeans

As I tried to dress for work.

You know I never wanted to leave you

But responsibility was persistent

And I went.

And when it was time for you

To leave me,

I couldn't let you go.

I tried everything I knew to make you stay

To keep you as my little angel

And not throw our love away.

And I'm sorry for making you suffer

In my greed for you, your silent companionship...

But who willingly gives up

That which they treasure above all

Without a fight?

And now I have what's left of you

In a flowery urn

In the room where I sleep

And I've got this issue about orange things.

I despair of ever finding you again

In a sea of souls so vast.

But if I could, I'd swim to you

Quick as a mermaid

And never let you go.
