SOMNOPHOBIA

You are so precious to me

Words can't even begin

To explain what I feel

When I look at you

When you're near me

When I smell your patchouli and cigarettes

Coming up the stairs

We've said "The Scary L Word" and survived it

We know we're siblings of the soul

We can stare at a blank wall together and have fun

But can we cross the bridge that

Separates our souls and our bodies?

Would it ruin everything we have,

The solace we've found in each other?

Can we risk it all to pursue a perfect dream

And still survive if we awaken?

As I put the sleeping pill to my lips

I find myself afraid to fall asleep.
