| From a very young age I have been given the tools that ultimately set me on the course to becoming a robotic engineer. My toys were always some type of basic robot, electronic or electrical device. I therefore thank my mother for guiding me to becoming what I am today. I have already obtained my degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and Computer Engineering Technology. I have been working on a number of project that have only strengthen my knowledge in micro-controllers and asynchronous sensing systems. The very first robot that I have studied was the OWI-962K. The company OWI have designed and manufactured a number of other robotic kits. This kit interested me because it used legs rather than wheels. There are two types of this kit, one being the MV-962 which is the pre-soldered and the OWI-962K which is the soldering required kit. The New York City College of Technology is only one of the colleges that is engaged in the construction and programming of a Micro-mouse robot. The Micro-mouse robotic competition is one that is held every year for colleges that want to earn knowledge and experience with computer controlled systems in a robotic environment. I was able to work with one of these Micro-mouse robots and it involves an understanding of electronics, computer architecture and some type of problem solving (programming). The basic stamp is a micro-controller that carries a number I/O lines that allow you to connect IR sensors for sight, ultrasonic transducers, microphones, and servos. In the proper arrangement you can make these devices into a robot of you very own design. At Acroname you can purchase these devices at a very low price. Check out the gallery at Acroname and see different kinds of robots some of their shoppers are building. I like the Golias robot and have taken the time to show you what it looks like. You can find this robot at the gallery as well. |
