Two more views of the fun and joy of commuting on the Bruckner Expwy, north of it's confluence with the Throggs Neck Expwy. The Bruckner splits apart shortly after this point, the lucky heading for the Throggs Neck Bridge and the suckers heading for the Cross Bronx and the George Washington Bridge.
The only possible solution to this mess, southbound, is
another Hudson River crossing around 125th Street and a highway
through that corridor in Manhattan to link said crossing with
the Triboro Bridge. This would enable many truckers now clogging
the entire length of I-95, to remain on the underutilized portion
of the Bruckner, south of the Cross-Bronx interchange. At present,
the prospect of wending their way through Manhattan side streets,
to get from the Triboro to the GW, is apparently no more appetizing
than remaining stuck in this.
The northbound jamming is basically due to the very inefficient
interchanges for the Pelham 7 Hutchinson Pkwys, which force too
many merging lanes together too quickly.
