We're
a couple of blocks worth of space east of Lefferts Blvd, roughly
due south from the last point on earth touched by 125th St north
of the Belt. Activity is beginning in the slivver of land between
the eastbound Belt and Nassau. Can you imagine living in such
a place, sandwiched by two noisy highways, hemmed in to the east
by a sanitation facility and roared over constantly by jets attempting
to land? By this point, I was making an effort to get circling jets into as many shots as possible, once I realized that a new jet would fly into the picture every couple of minutes, all traveling the same route, as if they all saw a road I couldn't. The shot to the left is about a block closer to Lefferts than the top and bottom views. The yellow thingy there is an emergency callbox, as the blue sign tells the curious. The flat panel atop the pole is, I believe, the transmitter for the phone. |
Looking westbound, a couple of still healthy 30 year old braced SLECO bigloop poles still take in the late afternoon sun, looking forward to celebrating Y2K standing up. For those who wouldn't guess, this counts as heavy traffic for the Nassau. Shot 10/99. |
