It took alot of waiting on listless July 14th, 2001, before I finally bagged a southbound tractor trailer coming off the sharp curve between the LIRR freight line to the north, and 56th Street, whose overpass shadow is barely discerned above. Below, a closer look north. The freight line is sandwiched between the 58th and Rust Street overpasses. Stairwells lead up to both negligible streets from the walkway lining Flushing's mini highway. Both egress points are in general disrepair, heavily littered and fetid with the typical stinks one would expect of them, given their appearance. The irony is that the overpasses themselves seem so well maintained and modern. The creme and orange bricked building has a spur of that freight line running through it that crosses over Flushing only a few yards south of 56th.
