Rockaway Blvd., looking southeast
bound on the left, northwest bound on the right, around the Brookville
Blvd. intersection. Still hanging on by a thread, on a half disintegrating
base, in this 1992 shot, was the last surviving 1920-30's style
twin lamp cast-iron pole on Rockaway Blvd., missing it's top
finial and listing badly to the south. It's matching cuplights
no longer worked. It has since disappeared, almost certainly knocked off by one 18 wheeler too many, of the hundreds of thousands of 18 wheelers, and millions of total vehicles, this once proud sentinel watched pass by for well over half a century. |
