Tombstones of John E. Keiffer and Mary C. (Caroline Rubright) Keiffer
Wildwood Cemetery

Caroline (also known as Mary C.) Rubright was born 1844 in Germany, the daughter of Bernard Rubright (Bernhard Rupprecht) and Marie Christian Lauderbach (also known as Mary C.). The family immigrated about 1846 and settled in Jarrettsville, Maryland. After the death of her father, Marie married Daniel Dorman and the family moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania about 1859.
According to census records, Caroline married John E. Keiffer (also known as Keefer) about 1869 and they had three known children, William H. Ernest M. and Viola Ruth (also known as Ruth V.). Caroline and John remained in Williamsport until their deaths.
This is the last know residence of Caroline Keiffer. 1023 Elizabeth Street, Williamsport, Pa.
Her daughter and son in-law George Kilgus also lived in the home.
John E. Keiffer was in the civil war. I do not have much information other than his tombstone and a record I found on line at the Pennsylvania Digital archives. He apparently enlisted January 5, 1864 from Philadelphia and served as a private with Co. F 2nd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. His discharge is listed as January 29, 1866. He is listed as a recruit and was age 19, 5' 5 3/8" tall with brown hair and blue eyes. His occupation was a laborer and it states he was born in Williamsport.
John died April 15, 1893 in Williamsport, Pa. and is buried in the family plot at Wildwood cemetery. It appears Caroline never remarried. She died September 10, 1927 in Williamsport and is also buried in Wildwood cemetery. Other people buried in the family plot are William H. Keefer (son of Caroline and John) and wife Ida, Carmen Hamlin (daughter of Wm. and Ida), Ruth V. Craven (daughter of Caroline and John) and Ruth's two husbands, George Kilgus and John W. Craven. There are also three other people that I can not place, Irene, wife of J. W. Keefer and two infant stones, Junior and Jack.
I have found one living family member from this line. If you think you are related, please email me.
