This Months' Featured Lure!

This month we have a seldom seen lure made by South Bend Bait Co. It's a Giant Jointed Pike-Oreno in South Bend RSF color which is often confused with Heddon's Allen Stripey color. This is the tack eye version that was made in the late 1930's, early 1940's and was originally introduced for Striped Bass according to an early 1940's catalog.  The model number is 960RSF. It was a large 7" plug weighing 2 1/8 ozs. and came with three extra strong 5/0 treble hooks. All metal was made with stainless steel and it was thru-wired throughout the entire body.  Standard colors for this lure in 1941 were RW (Red White),  MS (Minnow Scale, black/red), SF (Scale Finish), GS (Green Scale?), RSF (Red Scale Finish?) & SSS (Shad-O-Wave color). This lure had to be South Bend's answer to Creek Chub's Jointed Husky Pikie. Both were popular Striped Bass plugs.

This month we also have a seldom seen South Bend Tarp-Oreno in Mullet Scale color. This is the later pressed eye version that was made in the 1950's. Although not made for Striped Bass fishing I've included it because it was made for catching most other saltwater game fish besides Tarpon.
