This Months' Featured Lure!

This months' lure was made in Manhattan ( New York City) by the Snook Bait Co. This model is a Weasel and was made in two sizes. This is the smaller model and is about 4 inches long. It was also made in an 8 inch model which was one large bait! The Weasel came in many colors. Snook Bait Co. lures had twelve standard colors which were Rainbow, Blue Mullet, Red & White, White Ghost, Silver Flash, Perch Brown, Blue Flash, Green Mullet, Red Squid, Allen Stripey, Blue Herring, and Gold Fish.  I've also seen Yellow Flash and a few other special colors. Snook Bait Co. was a short lived company, only being in business about five years starting around 1950. They made spectacular lures in many different body styles. The had large swimmer models, which were called Big Snook and Surf Kings. They also made a medium and small sized swimmer. They had Poppers that were also available in all three sizes. A large swimmer flaptail was also made. Just like last week's featured lure, made by Charlie Russo, these lures were made for catching Striped Bass and Bluefish. It's too bad they were in business for such a short time as they made quality lures that worked well. They're usually found in heavily fished condition which tells me that they caught a lot of fish. Snook Baits are another rare saltwater lure and are usually found in the immediate greater New York area, when found at all. In the coming months I'll feature another model Snook Bait Co. lure.
