This Months' Featured Lure! This month we have two more beautiful lures made by the Creek Chub Bait Co. Both pieces are from my blue-flash collection and are somewhat rare. First is the Salt Water Darter, the #2000SW. Like a regular 2000 darter it is made of wood, but that is where the similarity ends. Instead of three treble hooks and screw-eye/cup rig this version has thru-wire construction, a leaded tail section and 2/0 extra strong treble hooks. It was made to catch and hold big fish! It was also available in plastic but those lures were rigged with screw-eye construction. This lure was made by Creek Chub for Costa Rican tarpon fishermen according to the letter pictured below from Harry Heinzerling to a New Jersey fisherman mailed back in 1974. In the letter Mr. Heinzerling states that the lure was recently added to their line. I obtained a copy of that letter a few years ago when buying the lure which is also pictured below the letter. Another great field find, this lure is a later version of the Musky or Husky Injured Minnow. It came in a plastic slide top box and usually had a "W" stamped next to the number that was on the end of the box (3534W). This large plug has tack eyes and has three extra strong treble hooks. Mostly made for musky and large saltwater fish this later version was changed from the earlier regular body style musky injured minnow sometime in the early seventies. I think it was probably made from what started out as a 7400 Surfster body. The back of the lure is identical in width and shape. I've never seen this body style with glass eyes although the earlier style came in both glass and tack eye versions. An oddity about his lure is that the cups are painted. This is the first time I've come across a Creek Chub lure done this way. Creek Chub made many different lures for saltwater fishing and sometime in the future I will feature more of them. Next edition I'll feature one of the other major companies for a saltwater lure that is not come across too often.
