New York is one of the richest states in terms of its wildlife.  With thousands of plants, hundreds of fish, nearly one hundred reptiles and amphibians, over four hundred birds, and almost one hundred mammals, New York has a diverse and intriguing group of wildlife.  Unfortunately it is also underappreciated by many of its residents.  New York has large tracts of public land including the Adirondack Park, Catskills, and Allegheny Mountain range.  No matter where you live in the state there is public and private lands where wildlife can be seen.

    The purpose of this web page is to bring New York's wildlife to those from areas outside the Northeast and to those inside the state who don't normally see and appreciate the wildlife around them.  All photographs were taken within the state or within 50 miles of its borders and have location data specific to the county.  Most were taken near my home in Monroe County or near my childhood home in Tioga County.  All photos were taken by me and are copyrighted.
