Carlton Livingston

Carlton Livingston was born in the parish of St.Mary, Jamaica. The fourth child of six children, of Beryl Watson and Gold wyn Livingston, he was musically inclined from youth. His mother was the organ player of the local Church of England; his older sisters were choirgirls. Carlton also sang on the Church choir at an early age. Born in September, he is a Virgo at heart. Quiet and shy he enjoys reading, writting songs and listens to old Rock and Roll music. Carlton is an avid sports fan, he enjoys playing soccer. He attented "Vauxhall Secondary School" and "Trenchtown Comprehensive". Carlton started singing around 1978, his first recording "The Tale Of Two Cities" - Channel One. In 1979 he recorded his first album "Soweto" for Leon Symoie's Trillseekers label. The next set of recording was done for the legendary Studio One label, that results in underground hits like "Why", "Predictions", "Here I Stand" and many other recordings. In 1979 Carlton recorded "Tricks" and "Trodding" for Sly & Robbie Taxi label, these songs enjoyed success in London ans also in North America. "Hot Hot Summer" was recorded for Buisy label, 1980 saw Carlton enjoyed his biggest success with hits like "Rumours", "Marie", recorded for Clive Jarret's Dynamite Records. With these hits Carlton was on his way as being recognized as one of Jamaica's Roots Dancehall singer. With his success went onto tour North America where he performed at "The Madison Garden Felt Forum", he also did shows in Toronto. Montreal, Chicago, LA and many other cities around the United States. 1984 saw the release of the huge dancehall hit "100 Weight of Collie Weed" this advanced to number six on the reggae chart in England, after a lay off Carlton cam back in 1994 with the release of "Emotions" on the Grapevine Records. His huge classic "Rumours" have been (re) recorded in 1998 this time with Shabba Ranks on Digital label, resurgence again Carlton popularity, he has also done recording for Jammy'$, Junior Reid and Winston Riley. He has back again in the year 2000 with the solid album caled - "Unforgiven" for Jamadon productions. Carlton Livingston has been hailed as one of the best singers / songwriters of dancehall, and lovers rock music. Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Shinehead, Sanchez and Carl Meeks have recorded his songs.

Carlton Livingston is one of those Jamaican artists who has never quite achieved the success he deserves. He started recording at the start of the 80s, and teamed up with producer C. Jarrett, cutting some fine slices of lovers orientated reggae at Channel One : 'Lonely man', 'Rumours' and 'Marie'. He subsequently recorded the herb anthem 'Chalice In Mind' for Sly and Robbie. At the moment he's residing in the USA, where he ocassionally sings over classic Studio One riddims for producer Coxsone Dodd. For Jamadon Records he recorded the album 'Unforgiven' in 1999.
