Reggae Criminals
Many Reggae artists have been imprisoned for many different reasons. This is mostly due to the "Rude Bwoy" era in the 60's. The reasons stretch from accounts of drug smuggling to accounts of murder. Here is a list of reggae artist and the reasons they were imprisoned:
- Toots Hibbet whom made a song "54-46" which was his actual prison number, to Roland Alphanso Prison for ganja possession.
- U-Brown, and Dillenger who was caught for cocain bissness and went on to make the tune "Cocaine Running round My Brain"
- Nigga Kojak who was put away for killing his wife/girlfriend i believe.
- Yellowmon was hauled away from his home and held for ganja conspiracy, and then made the tune "Operation Eradication"
- Cocoa Tea whom was sent to Rikers Island Prison and he made the tune "Me No Like Rikers Island".
- Super Cat was supposed to have been indicted for killing dancehall singer "Nitty Gritty" but I'm not sure of what the outcome of the trial was.
- King Tubbys was also held a few months for dealing with importing firearms.
- Sound System owner/operater/singer/DJ/Warrior Jah Shaka was locked away for a few years for juggling ganja and hash.
