A quick comment: Back to Review A-III Back to Ultra Magnus Homepage I didn't really care about the Alternity Line until eHOBBY announced their next exclusive addition will be Ultra Magnus. This got my attention because now this newly figure would be added to my Ultra Magnus collection. I got him for $LX from TFSource and arrived on Sept. Xvii, Mmx.

NOTE-1: This review page is meant to give you some ideas about the figure and for nostalgic or sentimental purposes. I hold no responsibility for your action. These images were mostly photographed and scanned by me. If there's a section or image that owned by you and I didn't give you credit, please Email Me and I'll make the correction. Have fun. - Click on the Thumbnails to view them at a Larger Scale - [Thumbnail Size = 100xHeight] R-1 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus in its Original condition: 1 - Frontal view of the Alternity Ultra Magnus box. Not surprisingly since this is coming from Takara/Tomy, Ultra Magnus box and and instruction were labeled incorrectly as "ULTLA" Magnus. 2 - Back of the box. 3 - Here's how the content looks once the shipping box was removed. NOTE-2: The Alternity Ultra Magnus e-HOBBY comic vol.3 is NOT included or parted of the package. It was given as a supplementary in addition to actual the Alternity Ultra Magnus box. Only sellers that purchased directly from e-HOBBY will have the comic. |
R-2 Pre-Applied Decals/ Stickers: There is only 1 Pre-Applied tampograph on Alternity Ultra Magnus and that is the Autobot insignia located on his waist. The rest of him all are painted, no sticker. Sticker Sheet: Alternity Magnus does not come with any sticker sheet. |
R-3 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus - Vehicle Mode: In vehicle mode, Alternity Magnus is a 1/32 scale Nissan GT-R car whose measurement approximately 5 3/4 x 2 1/2 x 1 14/16 (LxWxD in inch). This mold is a redeco of Alternity Optimus Prime A-01 who went from a vibrant Red, to Ultimately Silver, to Super Black, and now in this 4th edition as Ultra Magnus. Being an exclusive from e-HOBBY, Alternity Ultra Magnus comes with a separate supplementary comic to enhance the figure by giving a background story, see R-8 for more. In this 4th edition of the A-01 mold, Magnus alternate mode is predominately milky white with secondary colors such as black, silver, and red. He features rubber wheels, clear windows all around, and a clear translucent headlights. Furthermore, the car door mirror is chrome-like to have shiny surface just like a real mirror. Alternity Magnus also comes with a huge chuck of die cast metal but is mostly visible from robot mode. All the car body and shell are plastic. The level of details and designs are truly magnificent. Why? Every piece and joint to form the car fit perfectly. It is so sturdy and solid all around. One teeny tiny issue I noticed when you roll Alternity Magnus in an even surface or soft surface like your bed, the front wheels do not roll smoothly. |
R-4 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus - Gimmick 1: As a Nissan GT-R car, Magnus front doors can be fully opened out revealing the beautiful steering wheel and car seats. The back of the front seats are adjustable while the rear seats are fix. Moving toward the front of the car, the hood can be lift up revealing the engine. The engine isn't as realistic as those found in the Binal Tech/ Alternator Line. If you look closely, you'll see a white piece, this is actually the back head of Magnus. The trunk at the rear has the ability to open up too but you can't really store anything in there due to the tight space. Well, this doesn't really matter since Alternity Magnus doesn't come with any accessory. Looking from the underneath, other than the hands, the rest of the body parts are pretty much hidden. |
R-5 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus - Robot Mode: Like all typical Magnus robot cab, Alternity Magnus forehead and mouth plate also have blue paint with red eyes (more of light reddish pink). His primary colors in robot mode are predominately milky white, gray, and black. A very small red Autobot insignia is visible at the center of his waist/ crotch. The overall design is absolutely gorgeous all around. Although the transformations and designs are very similar to the predecessor Binal Tech/ Alternator Line, the Alternity Line is a big improvement because here is no loose or popping piece when you changing between the two modes.
Before I comment on the down side, if your Alternity Magnus doesn't have any issue with the joint where the upper thighs connect into the crotch, then the figure really has no downside. Moreover, Alternity Prime from the earlier released such as red, silver, and black version never had this issue. Since Alternity Magnus is the 4th redeco, maybe the degrading of the mold is starting to occur or maybe it was just bad assembled by the workers. Whatever the reason was, since my Alternity Magnus got a loose joint at the crotch, it was very difficult making him standing straight up. He's constantly flipping backward and fall down as seen in my Youtube video on the left. So far, it seems like I'm not the only one who is experiencing this loose crotch joint issue. This issue could've been helped or resolve if he does not have that huge die cast metal at this back. Moreover, the large back kibble adds to the problem as well. The better location choice would've been the thigh, lower leg, or feet.
As a remedy to problem, a fellow poster, suggested on using a clear nail polish or dry clear super glue and put it directly into the joint. Once the glue dried up, the joint will be tight and your problem will go away. Also just be a ware Alternity Magnus crotch joint make a clicking sound whenever you bent the upper thigh. I don't know whether the ratchet joint will loose it sound once you applied the glue onto it. I haven't not try it yet. |
R-6 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus - Gimmick 2: Alternity Magnus features 2 gimmicks that are located at the head and both the lower arms. On the top of the head, there is a clear plastic material which enable light to get in. When that process takes place, his eyes will glow up. This special eye glow features can also be seen from previous molds such as in the HOC Ultra Magnus PVC, G2 Laser Prime/Magnus, Classic Prime/ Magnus, and others. On the side of each outer lower arm, a portion of the back seat can be flipped out to reveal a double barrel gun. This is the only weapon that Alternity Magnus comes with unless you purchase the 3rd party TFC-005 Gear of War 2 LED rifle set which are also compatible with Bay's Movie Prime, Classic Prime/Magnus, and Alternity Prime/Magnus. |
R-7 Articulation Show-Off: Here is Alternity Magnus showing off his many articulations movement from running to sidekick. I'll just let the picture do the talking as there's an expression, a picture is worth a thousand word so click on the left image. For the actual detail on articulation, see R-9 on Articulation. |
R-8 Alternity Ultra (ULTLA) Magnus - The Comic: Not part of the Alternity Magnus box or package, a separate handout featuring a supplementary comic to enhance the action figure more interesting by including a background story. You have to purchase the exclusive e-HOBBY version in order to get the comic. It contains 10 pages revealing how the G1 Ultra Magnus merged with the Alternity robot.

Figure's Stamp/ Fine Print: F2910; ©2008 TOMY; MADE IN CHINA. Figure's Stamp/ Fine Print Location: Can be found at the underside of the car hood. Transformation Of Difficulty: [Hard] - It's only hard when you tried it for the first time. Material Durability: [A] - Pretty durable. Materials: Die Cast Metal: At the rear of his back. Chrome Part: None. Rubber: None - All plastic wheels. Plastic: Main material. Clear Plastic Window: None. Stability: [-C] - I can't say as whole, but at least on mine, the ratchet joint at the upper thigh/pelvis is so loose making it very difficult to stand up straight. As a result whole upper body would collapse backward forcing the whole figure to fall. This problem can easily be prevent if the large die cast metal at the rear and the back kibble weren't so huge and should've made all plastic. Fun Figure: [A] Negative Drawback - See stability - large die cast metal and back kibble. Articulations: Head: Can be rotated 360 degree sideway as well tilt up or down at 5 degree. Shoulder: Can be rotated 360 degree foward or backward as well as 90 degree sideway. Arm/ Elbow: Can be bent at a 90 degree angle. The lower portion of the arm can also be rotated at 360 degree sideway. Wrist/ Hand: Can be rotated 360 degree sideway as well as 45 degree up or down. Hip/ Waist: No movement. Leg: Can be bent at a 90 forward or backward as well as 180 split. Knee: Can be bent at 90 degree as well as rotated 360 sideway. Ankle/ Feet: Can be bent 90 degree downward. Rub Sign Logo: [N/A] Robot's Cartoon looks alike: [N/A] Vehicle's Cartoon looks alike: [N/A] Special Notes: Here are "4" special notes that I think you should know: 1 - Alternity Ultra Magnus features an automorph transformation so don't force the front bumper in order to extract then engine or head out. If it's stuck, retransform that section again. If you break the automorph, you'll have to manually transform the piece. 2 - Be very precautious when connecting the rear feet post onto the clear plastic, you don't want to break it. It doesn't really affect his standing if you choose not to make this connection. In the long run, item #1 and #2 will be the first to break. 3 - Since Alternity Magnus is the 3rd repaint of Prime mold, I think there is some sort of degrading to the mold itself. The upper thigh where the legs join the pelvis, the connection is severely loose made it hard for him to stand up straight without falling backward. 4 - If you opened the Alternity Magnus box and didn't see the comic, don't be alarm. You didn't miss anything since it was never packaged with Alternity Magnus. Instead, itwas given in a separate handout for those retails that purchased directly from e-HOBBY. Overall Grade: [-A] - Despite my Alternity Magnus had issued standing up, I can't assume all others Alternity Magnus are like this. The mold itself is utterly beautiful in both mode and there is mo piece popping out like the old Binalt Tech/ Alternator line. Those who have Alternity Prime, didn't have this issue.
