Why are numerous teenagers quitting their part-time after school jobs? Well if you were Michael Dell of Dell computers or Bill Gates of Microsoft you would have to, so you can run these large corporations. Many young people who are barely old enough to drive are handling multimillion-dollar businesses. Most of them started their businesses as part time hobbies that turned into real businesses. One would have thought it happened overnight, but these young entrepreneurs would tell you otherwise.
At age eleven no one would expect a person that young to be able to start their own business and run it. Aaron Greenspan is the eleven-year-old genius behind the "Think Computer" a business he created at the age of eleven. It's true kids are able to fix broken bicycles, radios and such but how many eleven year olds fixed computers and made a profit out of it? Probably not many, but it's the twenty-first century and many more teens are exploring what the world has to offer them. Greenspan equipped with his knowledge of fixing computers started fixing other people's computers which turned into repairing, database development, desktop publishing, graphic design, site design, and year 2000 assistance. It was on April 30, 1998 that he incorporated the "Think Computer".
Maybe one of the more familiar names on peoples' minds today is Tommy Hilfiger of Hilfiger clothing. His clothing has sold millions all around the world. Numerous people's first thoughts of the word "Hilfiger" would be in his line of clothing but how many people can tell you who Tommy Hilfiger is? Born in Emira, New York, the second oldest of nine children. Hilfiger started working at a young age of nine mowing lawns and at the local Hess station pumping gas at age sixteen. "I worked the night shift and made $1.25 an hour, which was great money at the time". Hilfiger said and he learned how to depend on himself and helping his brothers out.
Hilfiger began his first business with his high school friends who each chipped in $50 to begin their first jean business. They started out with ten pairs of bell-bottom jeans which all sold out in a day. Encouraged by this Hilfiger would make the 250-mile drive to New York in his rusted '59 WV Bug stuffed with 600 pairs of jumbo-legged jeans, which he purchased at $3.50. Turned around and sold them for $5.88 making himself a nice little profit. All this time still in his teens, with his two friends by his side, on December 1, 1969 they opened a store called "People's Place" in Elmira which was a big hit with the Elmira high school crowd. By their senior year the three partners were doing $1 million in volume and pulling down $60,000 salaries.
So everyone who think their small time hobbies are just for fun, should really check it out and see if they make it into a business. It never hurts to try just ask Tommy Hilfiger or Michael Dell. However, do not think it happened over night for them, work hard at what you want to do and it will happen.
