The Triple Cities Chapter of the NYSAA is made up of people with a wide variety of interests related to the Native American history, prehistory, artifacts, and technology of the Susquehanna drainage. Our members are a diverse group. Some have been collecting artifacts and studying the prehistory of the area for decades. Others have only recently become interested in the subject, perhaps through a small collection of inherited arrowheads. Some members are primarily interested in the technology used by Native Americans: flint-knapping, pottery-making, and other skills involved in "living off the land." Some have professional training in archaeology, and others have acquired their knowledge through years of reading, talking, collecting, and trying their hand at "primitive" technology.

The one thing we all share that brings us together is loving to talk about these interests. For the visitor or the "old-timer", every meeting is a chance to learn something new about a subject we are enthusiastic about. Seeing the latest additions to a friend's collection or watching someone demonstrate the use of a stone-tipped bow drill means that we get a deeper sense of the lives of the people who lived in this area over the last 10,000 years.

For those of you who have never attended a Chapter meeting, I hope you can join us and share our enthusiasm. You'll certainly have an opportunity to learn something new and maybe teach us a thing or two, as well.
