Directions
The beginning of the path to Death Falls is located on the south side of NY 28, near the southern shore of Raquette Lake in the central Adirondacks. There is a barrier 10 miles west of the village of Blue Mountain Lake, 3.6 miles east of the Sagamore Road, that marks the start of the short path. There is room for a car or two at this point. If there's no room here to park, and you can't park along the road, you may have to park nearby at the Golden Beach state campground on Raquette Lake.
Description
From the barrier, walk on a perfectly flat trail through a grass clearing less than five minutes to a flooded area. The trail circles to the right, around the flood. Passing an old junked car on the left, the falls is soon reached, about two tenths of a mile from the road. It takes little over five minutes to reach the falls.
Death Falls is best visited in times of high water. In low water, the falls can be reduced to little more than a trickle. Although the low volume of water and presence of a trashed car in the area take a little away from the experience, overall Death Falls is very beautiful and extremely accessible.
