Directions

The falls are located in the Stumphouse Tunnel Park, which is near the intersection of SC Routes 107 and 28. From Walhalla, travel northwest for about 6 miles on route 28. The park entrance will be on your right. Follow the access road to the parking area. A picnic area is located here, as well as the short trail to the falls.

Description

Issaqueena Falls is one of the most visited falls in all of South Carolina, and for good reason. From the parking area, follow the trail towards the top of the falls. While there are some fenced-in overlooks that provide some good views of the falls, the base of the falls still has the best vantage point. Reaching the bottom, however, is rather difficult, as the trail is steep, narrow, and eroded. It is worth the effort, but be careful!

The falls is pretty expansive. While the volume is not very high, the expanse of rock over which the water flows is really quite large. At some points, it almost looks like water is coming right out of the rock to contribute to the falls. While I have only been there once, it definitely seems like Issaqueena Falls is the type of waterfall that has a completely different appearance at different water levels. Other sites are definitely worth checking out to find better pictures of this falls, as my photo doesn't even come close to converying the actual beauty of Isaqueena Falls.
