Ridge Racing comes back to life in this sequel

Graphics

The tracks look very well done, and so do the enviroments surounding it. The crowds are of course paper thin, but thats how it is in just about every single game. The Cars look very nice, even though some jagged edges every once a while.

Sound

The games music is techno type music. Some are good, some are strange. You have the option of what BGM (background music) you want before you start the race. The engine sound is good and the tire squeaks are good too.

GamePlay

There are a ton of unlockables in this game. You have event challenges, which you purchase, or the racing life (story mode). There are many types of cars (Rally, GT class, Prototype, Drag, and Privateer). You can unlock new cars by doing certain races and event challenges. You can also upgrade your car. Turning can be difficult though. Drifting with the hand brake is nearly impossible, so you have to slow down and use brakes sparingly around tight turns. Sometimes the cars that the game wants you to use are not appropriate for that race, making it extremly difficult to win those races.

Fun Factor

It's a fun game, but it can get you furious many times. You can lose control so easily that you might find yourself throwing the controller across the room. If you enjoy racing games and a challenge, then this is a game for you. If not, well, give it a try if interested.

Overall

R:Racing Evolution gets a 8.5 out of 10. Its a good solid racing game but might pose to much of a challenge to many gamers. Now out on PS2, GameCube, and X-Box.
