Well, everyone knows that Soul Calibur II has finally come out. And, as a Zelda Site, I feel obligated to inform on how great this game is. I rate games simply, which is split into 4 categories. Graphics, Sound, Gameplay and Fun factor.

Graphics

Well, let me start off that these graphics are simply amazing. Its difficult to spot a pointy edge on any character. Also, the characters all have a very well done lip synchronization. The levels aswell are very beautiful, even though you really don't have much time to look at them. But the best part of the the graphics, is that I have yet to experience any slow down.

Sound

The music is really cool for most levels, which then sets the mood of the level. Only one thing I don't like about the sound is that there isn't any music during the starting menu, but it really isn't a big deal. The sound effects of the weapons are also very well done. Also, the voice acting is pretty good, even though some of the comments/intro's are corny as hell.

Gameplay

The GameCube controller is known not to be the preffered controller of fighting games. However, Namco was able to find a way to get it to work. A simple setup (A: Mid attacks, X: Kick attacks, Y: Vertical attacks) and a combination of joystick movements preform different moves. Using C-Left, Right, or Down performs a special attack. Hitting A+X or A+Y or B+Y performs the same thing. C-Up, Z, or A+X+Y performs the soul charge, which makes your next attack more powerful. And the most important of all, the block. Well, which ever one you feel more comfortable with, either B, R, or L.
Is it difficult to get used to, yes. Does it feel weird at first, yes. Does it work, yes. It takes some time but when you get the hang of it, you're set.

Fun Factor

A great fighting game with tons of unlockables. With the extra fighting mode, team fighting mode, and other goodies the game has, it makes the game more enjoyable and last longer. Of course, you can't forget the Weapon Quest, which isn't a normal arcade deal (even though the game has that too). The game does get harder though, much harder. And sometimes frustration can come into play and may make you want to throw your GameCube out a window. Still the satisfaction of beating a hard mission surpasses the frustration of losing to it 27 times.

Overall Score

In its entirity, I give Soul Calibur II a good 9.6 (out of 10). Lots a replay value, tons of unlockables, and a great way to relieve stress. A must get for GameCube, especially because of Link. So what are you waiting for, run, NOW to a store near you and get your copy.
