Back of Cohoes House RepairsHere are some pictures of the back of the house where the water damage was. With a lot of help from my dad, the back stairwell got a new floor (level) and a new exterior door. A new roof was put on to slope the water away from any parts of the house. I put on new siding and flashed around the edge of the roof with white aluminum and then new gutters. I built up the patio with concrete under the deck structure to sweep water away from the foundation instead of into it and installed a 4" drain pipe to carry the water from the gutters under the deck and into the yard away from the house. A lot of pressure treated wood beefed up the supporting structure under part of the bedroom, the bedroom wall (once again with Dads help) and the supports for the stairwell. Finally a new composite deck with a similar to the original railing constructed from composite decking and post sleeves, with the original 2x4s painted and installed under the railing to give support. Finally a huge source of stress just about finished. Just a few more details and then on to finish the other unfinished projects.

November 2004
The house is temporarily covered in Tyvek and a gutter is installed to keep water away for the winter. The tough part came in the spring. |
Here the roof is almost done
My Dad and I finished the stairwell and the new door before the roof was finished. |
Wall repair begins
I had a carpenter help when we first bought the house. There was so much work to do at that time, and eventually I ended up having to re-do many things behind the guy. Here you can see that I have removed the window and the lazy way shims that it was barely holding on to. I shimmed the wall out with plywood to prepare for the siding and installed the window correctly, although the hole wasn't square, so I did what I could. |
Here the siding is going up. |
Also the roof trim/white flashing is up. |
The new deck almost finished. |
