The time period between "Tunnel Of Love" and the "Human Touch"/"Lucky Town" releases was close to five years.

Bruce however, was not idle during this timer perioad and would often go bar hopping through the Jersey area sitting in with other artists for a few tunes. The early 90's also great changes in Bruce's live. He married E-Street Band member Patti Scialfa" and they have two sons and a daughter.

Bruce released both albums "Human Touch" and "Lucky Town" on the same day, March 31, 1992. He opted for the two albums over a double album format as he considered the content as distinct material.

"By the time I finished the album I was at a different place in my life. I was a father and having this uplifting and happy relationship. I felt revitalized, and I didn't feel that was reflected in the "Human Touch" album. I didn't hear the Hallelujah, raise your hands to the sky of someone who felt as thankful and as blessed as i did. I had been away a long time, and I could imagine someone asking, "What's happened? Where are you nowadays?". I also felt like I hadn't risked enough artistically. So I put the record aside and sat with it two or three months. I felt I needed one more song".

That song would be "Living Proof" which he wrote about the birth of his first son. Bruce started writing and recording more songs and goes on to make the album "Lucky Town".

"Human Touch is a radically different Bruce compared to "Darkness", "Nebraska" and the anger of "Born In The USA". Some fans were disappointed and "Human Touch" ended up as one of his least acclaimed releases among both fans and critics. Though he may have lost money on the double release, Springsteen had definitely turned a corner. Gone was the brooding soul from the past and in its place stood a happy contended father and husband.
