Live 1975-1985
Lives on the line where dreams are found and lost I’ll be there on time and I’ll pay the cost For wanting things that can only be found in the darkness on the edge of town " |

With relatively few releases Springsteen had become legendary in concert and known to excell in three and four hour shows put on all over the world. But there wasn't much evidence of these live shows to the outside world (those that did not attend shows). The fans had been asking for a "live" release for years and with hundreds of "bootleg" shows circulating throughout the Springsteen community it only primed appetites for more. Seldom did (and does) Springsteen and the band ever do a song in exactly the same way from concert to concert, and among his most ardent fans his "live" performances were most treasured. He was not excited about a "live" release and was more interested in experimentation and perfection of the band's sound in the studio. He did however change his mind when presented with the tape of a "live" 1975 solo rendition of "Thunder Road". He felt that any project involving a "live" release had to start with that song. He later said that he presented the band with the record saying that if anybody ever asked what they'd done with their lives, they could present them with the album as it captured Bruce and "The E-Street Band" at their finest. The "Live 75-85" album debuted at number one and was considered to be a must have.
