OF HONOR~
THIS
PAGE IS DEDICATED TO ALL VETERANS
I offer you
with glory
Salute across
the land
To every single
one of you
Who offered
helping hand
I give to you
my heart
With joy of
liberty
Repeat the
words forever
We always
will be free
Strength you
gave with courage
With honor
marching by
Glory of Our
Father
Who watches
from on high
To everyone
who lost their life
Without a
battle cry
I salute you
and I say to you
Your spirit
never dies
Etched within
our hearts now
We all shall
now go forth
Forever you're
beside us
Our glory
never lost
Bravery became
you
On this sad
and fateful day
Memories you
left for us
Will never
fade away.

In
1992 the Nassau County Veterans started the "Walls Of Honor" located in
Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY. Their purpose was to honor
and to remember those that served in the US Military during war time and
peace time. To remember and never forget those that gave their life
so that this country could remain free. To remember those that although
did not fight a war did serve in the military and would have, if necessary,
also fought to keep us free.
Every year
in June the Nassau County Veterans hold a ceremony in the park and unveil
the new walls. This past June I attended the ceremony to see the
following names being unveiled:
Steven Joseph
Amato ~ My Son ~ Killed during peacetime
Xavier Francis
Artuso ~ My Brother-In-Law ~ Died of natural causes
Benedetto Campione
~ My Uncle ~ Killed during the invasion of Normandy
Richard N.
Carnevale Jr. ~ My Friend's Son ~ Killed during peacetime
Joseph Musumeci
~ My Father ~ Died of natural causes
Dennis Bradley
O'Brien Jr. ~ My Friend's Son ~ Killed during peacetime
Marcus A. Zaharko
~ My Friend's Son ~ Killed during peactime
As I looked
around and saw the many walls as well as the monuments dedicated to the
Veterans of World Wars, the Korean War & the Vietnam War I could only
imagine how many of our young people have fought for our freedom.
I can only imagine how many of our young people have died during peacetime.
I can only imagine how many have died before they ever had a chance to
really live. And now we are once again at war and I can only imagine
how many have died, how many more will die and next year how many more
names will be added to the "Walls Of Honor."
If you are
ever in East Meadow, NY I would suggest that you take a few minutes of
your time and visit this beautiful memorial dedicated to all veterans of
this country. It is breathtaking and at the same time heartbreaking
to see name after name after name. You can leave flowers, you can
leave a flag or just say a prayer but I guarantee that as you leave you
will be leaving with a new outlook and a new respect for those that have
served and are serving in the US Military.
