Weight: average=13-24 lbs. but as much as 40 lbs.

Lifestyle
Habit: Solitary and nocturnal
Diet: Carnivorous; mainly rabbits and hares, also rodents, sheep, deer and birds
Lifespan: over 30 years in captivity

Breeding
Sexual maturity: 1 year males mate in their second year.
Mating season: November to January. Females are thought to give birth every other year.
Gestation: 60-63 days.
Litter sizes: 1-6 cubs, usually 3

  • Bobcats are good swimmers, but theyrarly go into the water. But, on hot days they sometimes they sit in pools of water to keep cool.

  • Bobcats are found heavily throughout North America from southern Canada to southern Mexico.
  • Most common wildcats in the US are hunted for sport and trapped for fur, particulaly in the northern part of range. A sub species in Mexico is listed as endangered.
