From The Consigliere's Desk

Every once and a while something will come across Consigliere's desk that he feels he wants to share with everyone. So each week we shall post something different that he wants us to share with you. Just click on the "Desk" to see the article.

Consigliere's Desk

This week we would like to thank "Blinky" for submitting this weeks article titled "The Spirit of Christmas, The Spirit of America". When The Consigliere received this essay, he was deeply touched by the young woman named "Stephanie Mathson" who wrote it. Her command of the English language is excellent and she expresses her feelings beautifully. Our design staff immediately got busy creating a page on this with an email form included. (After you read the essay, the next statement will make much more sense).

The Consigliere still remembers how when he returned from two tours in Viet Nam 1968-1970 (27 months) he and 1000's others were looked down on for defending freedom that we have grown to know. It is a great blessing to see that today, soldiers are looked upon in a much different light. Some of the same soldiers who served in Viet Nam and the younger generation of soldier who was not even born in the Viet Nam Era are now looked up to for again defending that very fragile word of "Freedom".

Tips and Tricks

Each week we add a little tip to assist you in your web building. Some of the things you already know and sometimes you will come across a thing or two that you wanted but did not know where to find it. This week we will feature
"Prompting User Input"

This little JavaScript prompts the visitor to enter his or her name, then the script outputs that information to the browser. This is the code you can use to make this happen. And remember, using your HTML knowledge, you can always change the way JavaScripts perform their output by altering the HTML elements of the script.

<div align="center">
<Script language="JavaScript">
document.write("<Font Face=Verdana Size=3 color=red>Hello, "); document.write(prompt("What is your Name?","Enter Name")); document.write(". Welcome to My Website</font>");
</script>
</div>

Try placing this code on a page anywhere in the <BODY> of the document and see what happens. You can change the question to anything you like, and of course, the output display will change as well. Just copy and paste the above code into our script tester to see how it works. To see all the different reconfigurations you can make on this little script, check out our "Little Tips" page.

The Consigliere's™ Top Question

Every week we receive 100's of different questions on Web Design, Security, Email, Internet etc. There is always one question that sticks out more than the rest. So what we have decided to do is post the top question of the week and show you how we answer it. If you feel you would like to add to the answer feel free to contact us with your input on the question.

Question
I have seen on many sites a pop up that will not appear until you leave the page that has a message like "Thank You For Visiting My Site" or something like that. I even went so far as to look at the source codes on pages that have the effect but could not find it. How can I do this?

Signed:
     Hopeful In Hartford

Probably the reason you could not find it within the source code is because it is within the body tag of the HTML document. To do this and more, all you have to do is add a simple line of code into the Body Tag of your HTML code.

<body onUnload="window.alert('Your Message Here')">

Many people do not know how to add a code as this into the body tag and make it function. If you would go to the below link, it is all explained step by step including all the possible reconfigurations you can do within this little java script alert code.

Test Your Knowledge

We would like to thank Wayne, aka Joey Bagadonuts who is The Consigliere's brother from Alaska for answering last weeks question on Horizontal Lines.

This week the question will pertain to
