The first thing you need to do is have the picture uploaded somewhere in your computer. If it is a photograph you have to scan it into your computer. If you do not have a scanner you cannot send a photograph. If it is a picture from the internet then you can do it. To save a picture from the internet to your hard drive, just right click on the image and "Save As" to your hard drive.
The only other way without a scanner is if you know someone with a scanner, have them scan in the picture you want to send and have them email it to you. Then you can upload the picture to your computer, attach it and send it.
- Place the picture you want scanned on the scanner bed face down.
Position it on top and in the center of scanner bed.- Open your scanner so it appears on your screen.
- Once scanner is opened on your screen, start scan.
- Once the image is scanned and appears on the screen, select where you want the scan to go. You want to send it to an "Image File".
- Next select output type. Is it a black & white picture, color picture etc. Select what type of image it is.
- If you want to have only certain parts of the picture saved move the border to reflect what is to be saved.
- Now you want to size the image. This is your preference on how big. You can play around with it until you like the size.
- When all those configurations are set, now you want to "Save it". Once you click save scan, a box will pop up and ask you where you would like to save it. On the top of that box is a drop down menu that you can click on to save where you want it so you can remember where you put it. If I am going to attach to an email I save to "Desktop". It is easy to find there.
- Now select what type of image you want to save it as. The industry standard is a JPEG Bitmap file (*.jpg). Select this file type for a photgraph.
- Now name the file to be saved. (EX. my_vacation)
- Now save scan and it will be saved to where you put it.
- A box will pop up asking you JPEG Compression size. Use "High" large file. You get the best quality. Click OK and it is now saved to where you put it.
- Now minimize the scanner screen and look for your scanned image. Open it and see if you like what you scanned. If not, open the minimized scanner screen and play with it until you like it and save again.
Once that is done we suggest that you optimize the saved image. If you notice it is probably a large size file. To do this read the below link that explains the reasons for optimization of images and or pictures. If you decide to optimize your image there is also a link on that page to an image editing program. Once there select "Optimize Image".
Now, either way, if your image is or not optimized, now to attach it to an email. Open your email and go to "Compose". Once there there will be a link of some sort for "Attachments". Click on it. Once there click on "Browse". This will open a window with all your drives and programs. Find in the drop down box where you saved your picture or image. Once that opens click on your picture. It will automatically be entered in the textarea box. Now click "Open". Now click on "Attach".
Depending on the size file being attached it can take from 10 seconds to 10 minutes or more. Once it is attached it will show in the textarea box for attachments. If this is the only attachment then click "Done" and it will return you to the "Compose" window where you will see the attached file. Now compose your email as normal and send. Most email servers has a maximum of about 1000k give or take a few.
