Stop IconStop Programs From Opening Or Running Stop Icon
When You Boot Your System

H ave you ever wondered why, when you boot up your system, you have all these programs running on start-up and you really don't want or need them to start automatically. LIke for example, instant messenger, all the promo programs that your system incorporated and anything else that was programmed to start automatically when you purchased your system.

T he next question is;
How do I stop them from starting when I boot up?

I n other words, I want to manually start certain programs instead of them starting automatically.

T his is extremely easy to do. Just follow the below steps and you can stop any program you want from starting on boot-up.

  1.    Select your "Start" menu from the lower left side of your screen.

  2.    Once this opens, select "run..."

  3.    When that opens, type into the box in lower case "msconfig" and click "OK"

  4.    Once that opens, you will have numerous tabs on the top of the box that opens.

  5.    Select the "Startup" tab.

  6.    Once that opens, you will see which programs you have that are selected to start on boot-up.

  7.    Read them carefully and uncheck the ones you do not want to start on boot-up.

  8.    Once you have made your selections (reconfigurations), click "Apply", then "OK"

  9.    You will probably get a prompt that for the changes you have made to take effect, you need to restart your system.

  10.    Once you restart your system, you will get a dialog box appearing. Be sure you select;

    "Don't show this message or launch System Configuration Utility when Windows start",

  11.    Then click "OK". If you don't, every time you boot your system, you will get that dialog box appearing.

W e do feel obligated to advise you that if you do not really feel comfortable with doing this and do not understand all the programs and how they are listed, DO NOT attempt this unless you have someone who knows what the programs are and if they should or should not start when you boot your system. You can call your pc technical support and have them walk you through it so you will not close a program that needs to be active on start-up.

I f this is a little confusing, grab the below link and view a slideshow to clarify it a little more.
