I
am the Administrator of our office computer system and am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack2. I have a three (3) fold question.
- I have a number of people that use our computer in the office. Each one has their own login but I want to have their passwords expire after "X" amount of days* for "Security Reasons".
- Is it possible to Configure their passwords so they Cannot Change their Passwords?
- Is is possible to Disable Individual accounts? So that person(s) "Cannot" gain access.
* You cannot set a timer that after "X" amount of days will prompt them to change their password. You as the "Administrator" must do this manually. In other words, you can require them by a prompt to change their password the next time they login. You have to keep your own records of how long between passwords changes and go in and reconfigure everytime you want it done.
I
n a word, "Yes" to all three (3) questions, and it is quite simple. Just follow the below steps and in a matter of minutes, you can have your office workers passwords expire, restrict the changing of passwords and also disabling individual accounts.
- Right click on "My Computer".
- Now a menu will appear and you need to select "Manage".
- Now a "Computer Management" screen will appear.
- Once the Computer Managenment Screen appears, now double click on "Local Users and Groups". Two (2) folders will now appear. (Users & Groups).
- Double click on the "Users" folder and you will now see a "List of all the Users on the computer.
- Now Double Click on the user you want to change the configurations. Once you do this, another dialog box will appear with the choices for your above original questions. Basically self-explanitory.
- You will select or unselect the appropriate check boxes for your needs for that particular user.
- Now that you have made your selections, select "Apply".
- Now select "OK" and that screen will vanish.
- Now close the final box and you are done!
