THE DRESS

Remember the dress?
That first formal?
With net and a touch of lace
Maybe a little flower applique

Remember the dress?
The one that made you a princess
Or maybe a "bride"
But you had a pimple.

Remember the dress?
You got up on a chest or chair
So you could see how it looked
With those first high heels.

I remember the dress.
And the boy and the slow dance.
And the corsage!!!
Real flowers ... heaven.

It's good to remember the dress.
The mirror reflects a different image.
The years have taken their toll.
But sometimes I see the dress.

And I find myself
Standing on tip toe
And hearing the music
And remembering the dream.

Remember your dress.
It won't make you young again
It won't erase wrinkles.
But those creases will smile.

Remember your dress.
How the world was your oyster.
And tomorrows went on forever.
Wink at yourself.

The dress is long gone.
The corsage dried and tossed.
The first love lost.
You're still here, princess.
