THE BATTLE FOR EARTH

By Ross Brandstatter

CHAPTER ONE

"What's Gohan doing again?" Goten asked his mother, Chi-Chi, who was doing the dishes while Marron pulled on her dress. Marron was the daughter of Krillin and Android 18. Chi-Chi had agreed to babysit her.

Chi-Chi sighed and said, "He's off fishing with Krillin and...Krillin's girlfriend. I forget her name."

"Oh, you mean Android 18?" said Goten, smiling. Chi-Chi nodded. "It's surprising to think that she's Krillin's girlfriend since she was trying to rule the world and all."

Chi-Chi frowned. "Goten, I don't want you to go and have fun with them."

"Why?" he asked. "Because I still don't trust that girl for what she was designed to do."

"What was she designed to do anyway?" asked Goten, looking confused.

"Destroy our world!" Chi-Chi said forcefully. "I still don't know why Krillin likes her."

"But, Mom, she's changed," said Goten. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go visit them." "NO, YOU'RE NOT!" Chi-Chi screamed, spinning around, her hands dripping with water. "Mom, I'm fourteen years old. I can do what I want." And with that, Goten went outside and slammed the door behind him, leaving a furious Chi-Chi inside. Little did he know, he had just done something extremely brave because back when Gohan was a young boy, neither he nor Goku would ever have dared to disobey Chi-Chi. And now Gohan was 25 years old and a wife and daughter. Yet he still didn't disobey his mom.

As Goten was flying over the lake, he kept thinking to himself. Dad, I still can't believe you're dead. You only came back for one day when we were fighting Buu. Why couldn't you stay longer? If only...

"Hey, Goten, what's up?"

It was Krillin! He was swimming while Gohan was trying to catch a big fish. Android 18 was leaning against the Kame House, watching them. Goten laughed. As he approached the house, he wondered why Master Roshi chose to live on a tiny island in the middle of an enormous lake.

"Hey, where'd Gohan go?" asked Krillin suddenly. They looked in every direction and didn't see him. And, just then, there he was. He came flying out of the water carrying a big fish. The fish broke free, but Gohan chased it down and swam furiously toward the shore. Finally, he tackled the fish and they both collapsed on the beach. 18 was staring at them, laughing. Gohan grabbed the poor fish's tail fin and held him in the air.

Then, a pteradactyl came out of nowhere. It circled Gohan, eyeing the fish. Goten put on his swimming trunks and started playing Water Tag with Krillin. He grabbed his hair and yelled, "Gotcha!"

"No fair!" Krillin protested. "You grabbed my hair."

Goten laughed and said, "Well, you should've stayed bald then."

The pteradactyl made a dive for the fish, but Gohan punched it in the stomach and it went sailing over the horizon.

"Way to go, big bro!" Goten yelled up at him. Gohan flashed him a thumbs-up. Krillin turned to Goten and asked, "So where's Trunks? This must be the first day you two aren't together, causing trouble."

"He couldn't come. He's training with Vegeta, as usual."

All of a sudden, Master Roshi came running out of his house. "Hey, you guys, you better get down here quick!" Yamcha appeared and added, "And we mean quick!"
