Can't Make You Love Me - Chapter 8
"on't play stupid with me," Chris snapped. "I saw you. So what’s wrong with you is the question!"
"Hey! I didn't do anything wrong! It's not like I have boyfriend. I'm allowed to play the field when I'm single!" The thought must not have occurred to Chris before. His face fell as we looked into each other's eyes.
"Right. I forgot. Sorry…" he apologized, stepping closer and giving me a big hug. "I never thought of it like that. In fact, I do it without realizing it, too. Wow, I'm pretty mean…" I silenced him with a kiss.
"Let's ditch this joint," I said after we pulled our lips apart. We stopped back in to say goodbye to Greg and we walked to my house. Walking through the city on a summer night is amazing, with all the lights and nightlife. Closing the door behind me, I showed Chris my freshly painted room.
"Very cool!" he commented. "Awesome idea," he added, looking at the ceiling.
"Thanks. I am so bored at the moment, it's not even funny," I declared after a pause.
"We could find something to do…" Chris moved in on me with a sly smile. I knew what he was getting at, but there's an off-limits zone right there.
"Oh no… no way," I backed away. I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow so he definitely got the message.
"Right. Sorry. I don't know what came over me," he apologized. I accepted his apology, although I was still a little freaked out.
"But seriously, I'm bored. Let's go out somewhere," I suggested.
"Ok Jacquie."
"WHAT?!" I was utterly confused.
"Whoa, sorry. I was thinking out loud." Chris was really surprised at himself for saying that, so I figured it meant nothing. Chris and I spent the rest of the night walking around New York City after finding a place to eat. (With out Brussels sprouts.) Chris walked me home and then proceeded to his house after a really long goodnight kiss… * * * * * * * * * * * *
Wednesday morning I rolled out of bed (literally) and caught sight of the clock. 1:00! Wow, I slept really late this time. Greg was coming to pick me up in exactly 4 hours, take me to dinner, and then off for another mystery ride. I was beginning to wonder what was up with all the secret destinations. Not that they were bad, just frequent. And I still had to ask him what that whole confusing backstage mess was last week, which I had forgotten to do again, so I made a note to ask him later.
I had until 5 to prepare myself for the occasion, but I wasn't sure if that would be enough time. I had an hour for a shower, another to figure out what in the world I was going to wear, and two for makeup and hair. Yeah, that sounds good.
*Ding dong.* The doorbell rang at 5 on the dot. My ensemble consisted of jean hip-hugger shorts, a pink spaghetti strap tank, and pink Keds. I had a half ponytail on my head, rolled into a bun with the ends sprouting out the top. I opened the door to smile into Greg's face.
"Hey gorgeous!" he greeted me.
"You wish you looked as good as me!" I joked. "I'm only kidding!" I giggled as he shot me an evil look. We went to a fancier-than-McDonald's restaurant, but not exactly fancy in my mind. We ate there and were off to wherever Greg was taking me. Once again, we went through all that backstage stuff with the password and necklaces. This time was different though because we actually stayed in the back room instead of being ushered out. All of the guys were there and I noticed another girl.
