Is Satanism a "Christian heresy"? Is Satanism "Abrahamic"?
Some Christian forums I joined when researching this article

To find out what some theologically-literate Christians think about these matters -- and, if possible, to be directed to authoritative info on the official opinions of large Christian denominations -- I joined some Christian Yahoo email groups and posted questions about the definition of "heresy" and the concept of an "Abrahamic religion." I selected "apologetics" groups that appeared to be at least somewhat intellectually-oriented, and which also appeared to be open to questions from nonbelievers. Also, I selected only groups that were conservative enough so that "heresy" would be an issue they'd be concerned about.Below are links to one Catholic group and two predominantly Protestant groups. - CatholicApologeticsOnline (middle-of-the-road Roman Catholic). Join here and then see the archived posts beginning at #543. After some preliminary misunderstandings, the discussion here got very interesting. See especially posts #553, #554, #555, #557, and #562.

I got plenty of good info in the Catholic group. Unfortunately, the Protestant groups were not able to refer me to any good relevant resources (other than one reference to the Catholic Catechism, which I already knew about).
So, my statements about conservative Protestant opinions are based, for the most part, on vague memories of various evangelical and fundamentalist writings I've seen over the years. Sorry I can't provide very many specific references, though I've been exposed to a lot of evangelical and fundamentalist Christian writings. All that occurred to me offhand was to recommend entering the word "heresy" in the search engines of major evangelical Christian websites such as gospelcom.net and christianitytoday.com.
