As soon as she sat, her face took on a set look; vacant, and he knew of nothing to fill the air with. If the tension hadn’t been so thick in the car on her part, he would have assumed it was just a bad break-up or something, yet the look in her eyes told him otherwise. As he eased the car onto the highway, he reached over and turned on the radio. “ I’ve got a headache,” April said, almost snapping, as she turned it off. Sighing, Nick stole a look at her. “ What’s wrong?” “ Nothing, I have a headache, am I not allowed that much, Nick?” “ That wasn’t what I was talking about, why are you all upset over that guy?” “ Because he’s an asshole.” “ How?” “ You’re prying,” She seethed, turning to face him for the first time since they got in the car. She looked tired weary, contradicting the fiery note in her tone and if he knew better, she looked on the verge of tears. “ I’m sorry.” He replied softly, nearly grimacing as he trained his eyes to the road ahead of him. She studied his face for several seconds before frowning and looking out of her window again. “ Shit...There must have been an accident,” He muttered as the cars in front of him slowed. Miles ahead, the cars were still piled one after the other, making it difficult to keep an optimistic attitude of getting home or to the nearest exit over the next half-hour at the earliest. Leaning back on the headrest, various conversation topics played through his head, yet he made no attempt at voicing them and easing the tension. Once she got in one of her moods, it was virtually impossible to break through them.
