Hang

Oblivious. He was completely perplexed and lost on why Casey had left.
The remnants of her things were still on her bare side of their closet;
things she'd been unable to fit into the two suitcases she had brought home
and he sat now, on what was once their bed, staring in the direction of the
walk-in closet. He couldn't help but think if maybe he had let her birthday
slip or their anniversary yet the date produced no memory of an important
day. Had he been rude somehow? Taken her for granted? He racked his
brain, trying to come up with a 'good enough' answer yet nothing came even
close to fitting the category. He had loved her, hadn't he? And that was
supposed to be enough, be all they needed when it came down to it. He was
alone now and he could hear it, feel it, in the emptiness of the rooms as the
quiet bounced off the walls and got trapped in the confines of the house.
Alone alone alone alone alone. The word pounded in his brain and he forced
his eyes to take a look at the clock. Two hours thirty four minutes since
she left and he hadn't budged, fooling himself into thinking if he stayed
where he was, she'd return and say it had been a joke, a prank and that she
hadn't meant to hurt him.
" You don't know what you got there, Nick." Kevin's voice played in his mind,
words from yesteryear forgotten and pushed away by now but they found their
way again. Of course he knew what he had, he was appreciative so why the
hell was he without her now? Sighing, he pushed his hair from his face and
leaned back onto the bed, the warmth a source of comfort for his aching soul.

" She's gone." He said into the phone when it rang and he answered.
" What?" AJ asked, not sure if he heard correctly.
" She left me." His voice mirrored the incredulousness he was feeling and he
heard AJ exhale.
" Casey?" Nick nodded, forgetting he couldn't see him yet AJ understood.
" Well, did you go after her?" Nick stared, blinking before replacing the
phone in it's cradle with a thud. No, he didn't go after her...

The trouble understand, is she got reasons he don't Funny how he couldn't see at all, 'til she grabbed up her coat And she goes, she's been here too few years to take it all in stride But still it's much too long, to let hurt go (you let her go) And we always say, it would be good to go away, someday But if there's nothing there to make things change If it's the same for you I'll just hang The same for you I'll always hang Well I always say, it would be good to go away But if things don't work out like we think And there's nothing there to ease this ache But if there's nothing there to make things change If it's the same for you, I'll just hang...
