Chapter Fourteen

“ Do you know what I put up with when you’re not here, AJ?”
She asked, her voice dropping the angry tone and into a more pleading
one.
“ Sammy, you know that’s not my fault, my job has requirements, and one
of them is to travel,” He said exasperatedly, watching as she poured
herself a drink, her back turned to him.
“ Well, it also leaves thousands of doubts in my mind! Do you know what
its like to wonder if you’re boyfriend is really staying as faithful as he
claims to be when he’s planted in the midst of adoring fans and
hasn’t seen his girlfriend in weeks?” She raised the glass to her lips and he
shut his eyes, disgusted with the scene before him, disgusted with the
glass bottles that lined up the countertop, with her, with himself, with their
whole relationship.
“ Don’t give me that look, AJ! You know its true!” Her mood shifted again,
as it always seemed to these days.
“ Samantha, the house is a mess,” He stated, looking around the nearly
trashed kitchen.
“ Oh, and that’s my fault also?” She snapped, slamming the glass on the
counter and looking around at the mess around them.
“ Did you throw another party?”
“ I get lonely, AJ,” She spat, as if it justified anything.
“ So trashing the house seems to be the remedy?”
“ It actually makes the house feel less empty...” He sighed, not wanting to
drift into yet another argument.
“ Allright, fine...Let’s talk about something else...What do you want to do?”
She poured herself another drink and he watched impatiently.
“ Samantha?”
“ Nothing with you! I want you to leave,” Angrily, she turned to face him
again. He let out an unbelievable chuckle.
“ You want me to leave? I just got back today,” His words had no effect
and she cut him off.
“ All we do when you’re here is fight,”
“ Oh, I guess that makes it ok for you to kick me out of my house,
right?...Sam, I think you’ve had enough,” He got up and attempted to take
the glass from her but she pulled away.
“ Get the hell out of here,”
“ Samantha-”
“ I said leave, goddammit,” He shook his head to himself and shot her
another look before picking up his keys off the counter, where had placed
them an hour ago when he returned from a trip to New York. He walked
out of the house and into the dark night before getting in his car and
heading off somewhere to aimlessly spend the night, knowing he was
going to end up in the same state she would be in in the morning...
