~ADULT SIBLING GRIEF WEBSITES~

 ~ADULT SIBLING GRIEF~

Mrs. T.J. Wray, whose only brother died when he was 43 years old, started this site.  She started a search for books or anything else that would help her make sense out of her loss, but found there was virtually nothing.  She reached the conclusion that adult sibling bereavement is what psychologists call a disenfranchised loss, which in simple terms means that society fails to classify this mourning as a legitimate loss.

On her website, Mrs. Wray has: a Chat Room, Message Board, Resources & Links, Memorials & Tributes, a Survey, Information on her forthcoming book Surviving The Death of a Sibling: Living Through Grief When An Adult Brother or Sister Dies, and a way to contact her.  The Chat Room & Message Board enables surviving siblings to exchange information & offer support.  The Resources & Links section refers you to other websites  or grief organizations.  The Survey is about 5 pages long & is very thorough.  It in itself will help you work through the circumstances of losing your brother or sister.

~SIBLING SURVIVORS~

This website is by Sibling Survivors of Suicide and contains a wealth of information for anyone with loss of a sibling.  The Resource Links section gives more websites than the one above, although both are good.  In addition, there is information about a photo gallery and a sibling quilt.  The founder of the website, Michelle Linn-Gust, lost her sister Denise to suicide.  She has written a book which is available now: Do They Have Bad Days In Heaven: Surviving the Suicide Loss of a Sibling.  In a summary of her book on the website, she says:
"Sibling survivors are often called the forgotten mourners.  When a sibling dies, those siblings left behind, no matter their ages, are considered secondary mourners to the parents and/or if the sibling who died had a spouse and children.  For those siblings still at home they will "lose" their parents for some time as the parents grieve the death of the deceased child...."
