This
is the season of new life; we call it "Spring." Last fall, Skip &
I moved to into a new condo. We lost our beautiful garden spot at
our old home. Our daughter, Emma and her family, bought us a long
planter that we attached to our porch. We planted some daffodils
in it.
This morning
(mid-February) as I looked at my planter, I saw the first signs of life
coming up from the dead looking bulbs I planted last October. The
bulbs that I plant each fall are a reminder of burying my sons in the ground.
My eyes fell on the tender young shoots of the daffodils that are beginning
to show life. Praise God, it always quickens my spirit every spring
when I see plants come to life again.
This spring,
Our Children's Memorial Walkway's garden will burst with new life.
Last fall, the Landscaping Department of Mecklenburg County & Recreation
plus several mothers planted several hundred bulbs. Our community
garden, which represents all our children who have died, will be alive
with the colors of daffodils and tulips. The bulbs should be in bloom
by Easter. Daffodils remind me of a golden trumpet ready to sound out the
good news that Christ has risen.
If Christ had
not risen, our hope of ever seeing our children again would be gone forever.
Christ lived and died not only for us but also for our children.
That's why it's so important that we raise our children to trust Christ
as Savior at an early age.
I love the
hymn Because He Lives, especially the verse which says:
And then one
day I'll cross the river;
I'll fight
life's final war with pain;
And then as
Death gives way to victory;
I'll see the
lights of glory - and I'll know He lives.
Then the chorus:
Because He
lives I can face tomorrow;
Because he
lives all fear is gone;
Because I
know He holds the future
And life is
worth the living - just because He lives.
Most of us
know the horrible pain of losing a child. One day that pain will
end. There will be no more crying, pain or sorrow, and we can see
our children again.
Christ's resurrection
os our guarantee of two basic truths: 1st, He has the power to give HIs
life to us and bring us and our loved ones ultimately to glory to reign
with Him forever. And 2nd, His resurrection makes it possible for
Him to live in our hearts and be an integral part of our every day life
- all because of the first Easter morning. Death is never the end
for a child of God.
