Frodo's Friends

My Friends

Bilbo Baggins

Oh, Bilbo! I came to live with him when I was twelve years old. It was wonderful living with him. He told me all sorts of stories of his adventures with Gandalf and how he "won" the Ring. (I later found out at the Council of Elrond that he took it from Gollum.)Bilbo and I share the same birthday. On his 111th and my 33rd we had a huge party in Hobbiton. Bilbo announced that he was leaving, forever. And he did. He left me Bag-end and all his possessions, including his precious ring.

Gandlaf the Grey

Gandalf had been an old family friend for a long time. All those years ago he came up to old Bilbo's doorstep at Bag-end to bring him on a glorious adventure. He came to me a few months ago and told me I had to leave Bag-end and the Shire completely. To be honest that wasn't the type of news I wanted or was expecting. I left in the fall and expected to meet up with him at Bree. He was not there. I finally saw him again after I made it to Rivendell. There we set off for Mordor. We lost Gandalf in the Mines of Moria to the Balrog. He put his life up for all of us. I will miss him greatly.

Samwise Gamgee

Sam is my best friend. He was my gardener before this whole Ring business started. When he overheard me and Gandalf talking about the Ring, Gandalf told him to accompany me on my journey. Sam didn't pass up the opportunity to see Elves. But, as it turned out, we got to see lot more than just Elves. Even though a lot of it was scary for a Hobbit who has never left the Shire before, Sam was very brave and faithful to me through it all. I always knew Sam was a faithful servant and a good friend, but I knew how deep our friendship really was. When we got to Rivendell he stayed by my bedside until I woke up. I offered to take the Ring to Mordor, but Sam still said he would not leave my side.

Peregrin Took (Pippin)

Pippin is the youngest out of the lot of us in the Fellowship. But, he is still just as brave (or scared) as any of us. He and Merry both knew about the Ring even before I told them. In fact they told ME that they were coming with me to Rivendell! Can you believe it! Poor Pippin has been captured so many times! First by Old Man Willow in the Old Forest, Barrow-wights (who actually captured all of us) and now by the Orcs. I hope he will be able to survive out there since the Fellowship broke up...

Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry)

Merry has been a great friend for years. He's actually my cousin, from my mum's side. He is the one who helped organize my leaving the Shire in secret. He's the one who found me a house in Crickhollow (in Buckland). He is a very sneaky Hobbit. I'll have to be more careful of him! I hope he and Pippin will be okay.

Tom Bombadil

When Pippin, Sam, Merry and I were traveling through the Old Forest, Pippin was attacked by Old Man Willow. I ran around calling for help, and who would have guessed it, but someone answered- Tom Bombadil. He saved Pippin from Old Man Willow and took the four of us to his house. He gave us food and drink and bed, and sung us many songs and told us many stories.

Argorn, heir of Isildor

We met Strider, I mean Aragorn, at Bree. At first Sam and I were suspicious. But then, stupid Mr. Barliman Butterbur didn't mail me a letter telling me about Aragorn. Anyway, it all worked out in the end, and Aragorn has helped us through countless rough times we never would have made it through with out him. Aragorn had kept the Black Rides away from us from Bree to Weathertop. And at Weathertop, where I acted as stupid as a Hobbit could get, and put on the Ring, Aragorn helped to heal me with his knowledge of ancient healing techniques. He then brought me and my friends safely to Rivendell. I cannot believe how great he is. I will miss him greatly, his skill, his stories; it is just me and Sam now...

Legolas Greenleaf

I met Legolas at the Council of Elrond. He had come to tell Elrond that Gollum had escaped the Sindarin (Elves of Mirkwood) who had been holding him captive. Elrond chose Legolas to represent the race of Elves in the Fellowship. Legolas was very good to have around. He had excellent hearing and sight, and the skill with a bow that nobody back in the Shire would believe. He saved our lives more than once with that bow. When we came to Lothlórien he sang a song and the Lórien Elves heard this and knew that it was of their kind. Later we found out that this was the reason we were not stopped for detection. His skills certainly would prove useful now that it is just me and Sam.

Gimli son of Glóin

Gimli came with his father Glóin to Rivendell. Glóin was one of the Dwarves who Bilbo traveled with on his Great Adventure. Gimli is great to have around. He lightened up all of the darker times on our journey. When we were entering Lothlórien he was bragging about Dwarves having the ears of a fox and then we walked right into an ambush! (Luckily, they recognized Legolas) Gimli is a very proud Dwarf (although according to Bilbo, most Dwarves are) and that is why he is so funny. I shall miss his funny comments.

Boromir of Gondor

I met Borioir at the Council of Elrond in Rivendell also. He was there to ask Elrond an interpretation of a dream. He was then placed in the Fellowship. I was never comfortable with Boromir; he looked at me funny and wanted to go to Minas Tirith instead of Mordor. He couldn't seem to get it through his head that using the Ring for good wouldn't work and it would eventually turn bad. When we were at Amon Hen, he tried to take the Ring from me. It was then that I decided to go to Mordor alone. I haven’t seen him since.

Elrond, Master of Rivendell

I always heard great stories of Elrond when I was a lad. When I met him in person it was amazing. I never realized how old he really was, but considering he has been around since the beginning of the First Age, he looks good! When Sauron's body was destroyed and Isildur cut the One Ring from the hand of Sauron, Elrond was there to council Isildur to throw the Ring into the Cracks of Doom where it was forged. Isildur chose to keep the Ring. And that is why I met Elrond. He was the one to save me from my would that the Wriath gave me. He also led the Council of Elrond (obviously) where the Fellowship was created.

Arwen Evanstar

When I first saw Arwen in Rivendell I was overwhelmed by her beauty. She looked so young in appearance, yet she was not young and thought and knowledge were in her glance. Her white arms and clear face were flawless and smooth, and the light of stars was in her bright eyes. She is often compared to Tinúviel, an Elf in ancient stories. I later found out she was Elrond's daughter, and Aragorn's girlfriend. No wonder when Aragorn was telling us the story of Tinúviel he seemed to be day dreaming...

Galadriel, Lady of Lórien

Aragorn brought us to brought Lothlórien where we met Galadriel. I, to her great surprise, offered the Ring to her. Though she was greatly tempted by the power of the Ring, but she refused it. But not before she acted really scary and screamed. Galadriel also aided us by giving us great gifts, including lembas bread for our journey, rope, magic cloaks that can make us invisible, and finally allowing Frodo and Sam a glimpse into her Mirror. When filled with stream-water, the reflections from its enchanted surface reveal 'things that were, and things that are, and things that yet may be.'
