Name: Al Vetere It’s very Italian – Alfonso James Vetere - Alfonso (named after my Dad and his Grandfather) James (named after my Grandfather) – confirmation name Michael (named after my Mom’s Dad) Instruments: Just one really – Drums – I can strum a few chords on a guitar but that’s about it. And don’t ever ask me to sing. Favorite Food: Gnocchi, Indian Food, PB & J - I’m a vegetarian so if it had a face or parents I don’t eat it. Favorite Color: Root Beer – it’s the color of my son’s eyes (and his mother’s too) Last Read Book: Hop on Pop Favorite Band: This one. Well, maybe after Zep and the Beatles. At a Glance: I was born and raised in Brooklyn where I started playing drums because my cousin played piano and our best friend played guitar. We hung out together all the time and knew the coolest thing to do would be to start a band. I won my first and only battle of the bands while in a full-length leg cast and crutches. I started playing Atlantic City casinos before I was 19. I played with an Elvis Presley impersonator. I did a bunch of gigs with nothing but Nuns in the band. I went to Catholic school for 8 years so this didn’t seem weird at the time - It sure sounds weird now! I was lucky enough to have played in Cancun for a whole month. We were the house band – I didn’t get a tan until the last day because we barely saw sunlight most of the time we were there. I have played in Latin Rock bands for a few years – but don’t ask me to dance. Most Embarrassing Moment: Did I mention I PLAYED WITH AN ELVIS IMPERSONATOR? Cab Calloway was in the audience - Hi-De-Hi-De-Hi-De-Ho!!! |
