Custom Libs and DuoSoft Toolkits

For those of you who don't know, a "custom lib" is a file that is created by players of a game that modify the properties of the game and the characteristics of various things in it. For example, a custom lib for a Jane's Combat Simulation can include additions to, or modifications of, aircraft, weapons, vehicles, graphics, sounds, and some other things in the game as well. In short, depending on the lib, these files can alter almost every aspect of the game. Many of these libs are fun to use, but only a select few of them are good enough to be worth playing again and again. There are also a few things you should remember when using libs though, most of which are outlined in the Tips section under "Custom Lib tips".

The programs that are used to create these custom libs are called DuoSoft Toolkits... made by a company by the name of DuoSoft, of course. Unfortunately, DuoSoft no longer supports the Toolkits it has made, and as a result, it is now very difficult to get the full version of the Toolkit. However, it is still realistically possible to get the trial versions of the Toolkits, provided that you can find a copy; so far, I have found the Tookits for each of the following games: ATF v1.14 (DOS), USNF '97, and Fighters Anthology, all of which are available from the Utilities/Toolkits section of this site.
