Holy Family Diocesan High School Chargers: 1966 to 1984

Football

Holy Family Diocesan High School of Huntington, New York wasn't with us very long, but it had some very good football teams in the early-to-mid 1970s.

1969: the First Varsity Season

Holy Family's first varsity football uniform had a design identical to that of the great Cleveland Browns teams of the 1950s and 1960s, but set in the Chargers' red and black colors.

The helmet was red with two 3/4-inch black stripes flanking a one-inch white stripe down the center and an interlocking H-F logo in black full block letters outlined in white on each side.

The black home jersey consisted of sewn-on white plain block numerals on the front, back, and upper sleeves and a white-red-white-red-white stripe sequence around each sleeve. The white away jersey had black plain block numerals on the front, back, and upper sleeves and a black-red-black-red-black stripe sequence around each sleeve.

Pants were white with narrow black-red-black outseam striping.

1973-1974

The helmet was similar to that of 1969, but without the interlocking H-F logo.

Black home jerseys were now short-sleeved and had white block numbers on the front, back and sleeves, and at the end of each sleeve was a red rib knit cuff decorated by two black stripes with feathered white edges. The 1969 sleeve stripes were now gone from the jerseys. The road jersey was white with black numbers and a black sleeve-end rib knit cuff containing two red stripes with white feathered edges.

White pants were the same as in 1969 and were worn with both jerseys.

1981

Helmets were now white with red-black-red striping and no logo decals.

Home jersey was solid black nylon mesh with no sleeve striping or rib knit cuff. The white jersey was solid white nylon mesh.

White pants had a two-inch wide black stripe bordered by two narrower red stripes down each side.

1983: the Final Season

Helmets and jerseys were the same as in 1981, but were now worn with red pants that had a wide black stripe bordered by thinner black stripes down each side.
