Maria Regina Diocesan High School Crowns: 1966 to 1984

This page was last updated on July 16, 2004.

Maria Regina Diocesan High School of Uniondale, New York, was only with us for a rather brief time, however the school had some very good football teams near the end of its eighteen-year existence.  If you have any old Maria Regina High School yearbooks or any black-and-white or color photos of Maria Regina High School’s sports teams and/or sports uniforms, please e-mail me.  Thank you very much.

Based on my research via old Newsday microfilms, I have been able to come up with some information about the Maria Regina Crowns’ football uniforms.

Late 1960s-?

Here is some information I’ve been able to find concerning the early years of Maria Regina football:

I played for MR from 1968-1970.  Coach was Dick Flynn, assistant Ted Petersen, Neil Falco, Brendan Black, Mr. McCormick.  Home uniform was white with baby-blue numerals, baby blue helmet at that point with a crown on the side.  Athletic Director was Al "Dusty" DeStefano.  First years were terrible...1 win seasons.

We practiced at Eisenhower Park, because we had no field to use (we walked from MR across Hempstead Turnpike, carrying tackling dummies etc all the way to Eisenhower).

1972

The Maria Regina Crowns wore solid blue helmets this season.  The home jerseys were a deep baby blue color with white full block numbers on the front and back and dark blue-white-dark blue UCLA shoulder loop striping, and the pants were white with a one-inch wide light blue side stripe.

I’ve recently received some additional information about the early Maria Regina athletic colors.

I do remember the colors white and baby blue, though.

Circa 1980 to 1983, the Final Season

The Maria Regina helmet was dark blue with a joined diagonal MR logo in white on each side and either three white stripes or two white stripes flanking a wider gold, silver, or light blue center stripe.  Navy blue home jerseys had light-colored (gold? silver? light blue?) numbers with white borders, the words “MARIA REGINA” in white full block letters on the jersey front above the numbers, and three thin white stripes alternating with two wider light-colored stripes around each sleeve.  White road jerseys have similar graphics, but in reverse colors (i.e. dark blue numbers).  White pants were worn with both jerseys and had rather narrow dark blue-unknown lighter color-dark blue striping down each outseam.

If anyone of you can give me information on the correct colorings of various elements of Maria Regina’s uniforms, please e-mail me.

I would like to thank Mr. Vinnie Tracey and Ms. Ruth McManus Krems for some of the information provided on this page.
