To
Long Island Radio Fans and Historians:
I
am trying to start up a Long Island Radio Surveys Page as a way of preserving
some of Long Island’ radio history. The
particular focus of my project will be Long Island radio stations that played
popular music since the World War II era.
This site is meant to complement the Long Island Radio History pages at www.wackradio.com.
These
are the Long Island radio station surveys I am most interested in:
· WRCN Album Charts from the
1970s and 1980s (These charts were the basis for a weekly countdown of Long
Island’s best selling albums.)
· WGLI: 1958-January 1968, and
January 1973-June 1975 (NOTE: I’ve recently found a way to get all the WGLI
surveys from February 1968 through mid-January 1973 via microfilms of the Babylon
Beacon weekly newspaper.)
· WGBB: 1965-1981
· WBAB: November 1968-May 1973
(WBAB’s Top 40 period)
· WNYG: “Golden 14” countdown
surveys from 1979 through 1984 or whenever the “Golden 14” countdown show was discontinued
· WDIX and Apple Radio:
Suffolk County Countdown surveys from the late-1970s and early-1980s
· WBLI: 1971-1989
· WBIC
· Pre-Christian 54 WLIX
(anytime from 1967 to March 1979)
· WGSM
· WLNG: 1962-1989
· WHLI: anything from before
April 1979
· WAPP: 1984-1986
· WNBC, particularly from 1977
to 1984
· WYNY: I’m interested in
surveys from whenever the station’s “NY Top 30 Countdown” show began through
Summer 1983.
· Surveys put out at anytime
before 1989 by Long Island stores such as TSS-Seedman’s (Times Square Stores),
May’s, White’s, Masters, Modell’s, Great Eastern, Woolco, Korvette’s, Record World,
etc.
· Photocopies of playlist add
and “prime mover” information about Long Island and New York City radio
stations as included in Radio & Records (R&R) from 1973-1989,
Cash Box from the 1950s through 1983, the Gavin Report up to 1989,
and the Metropolitan Report from the early-1970s through August 1983.
Since
I know most of you would prefer not to part with your original survey copies, I
will accept photocopies, .jpeg files, and retyped transcriptions. I would also accept copies of in-house
playlists of the stations mentioned.
If
you wish to donate any surveys or other information, please e-mail
me. You can also click on my name
at the bottom of the page for more information.
Thank
you very much.
Yours
truly,
