GRANDMA'S APRON

The use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath,
but along with that,
it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven;
It was wonderful for drying children's tears,
and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs,
fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs
to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids;
And when the weather was cold,
grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden,
it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls.
In the fall the apron was used to bring in apples
that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road,
it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready,
Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron,
and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that "old-time apron" that served so many purposes.

RECIPE FOR FRIENDSHIP
Fold two hands together
And express a dash of sorrow
Marinate it overnight
And work on it tomorrow
Chop one grudge in tiny pieces
Add several cups of love
Dredge with a large sized smile
Mix with the ingredients above
Dissolve the hate within you
By doing a good deed
Cut in and help your friend
If he should be in need
Stir in laughter
love, and kindness
From the heart it has to come
Toss with genuine forgiveness
And give your neighbor some
The amount of people served
Will depend on you
It can serve the whole wide world
If you really want it to

RECIPE FOR FRIENDSHIP 2
2 heaping measures of trust
2 well rounded scoops of respect
2 generous portions of affection
2 equal amounts of sharing
Method
Stir together until lumps & bumps are dissolved.

MAMA'S PAN
The pots and pans sit neatly stacked
Upon the shelf display.
The fancy colors and shiny sides
Are nice but
"no way" I say!

What I want is "Mama's pan"
The one she used each day.
To cook and fry delicious meals
From recipes done her way.
So if you're lucky to have this pan
Or your own in which to cook,
You'll find her secrets inside
Her own 'Home Made' Cookbook
