Metal hinges are nailed to the rudder plate. (Cut the nails on a bias so that they will not penetrate to the other side of the rudder plate.)Take your time here to keep the hinges paralell to each other. Cut the rudder shaft (steering arm) to length,taper and flat file a 2mm pin to be inserted into the rudder shaft. Pictured... to facilitate tapering, thumb-tack a piece of emery cloth to a piece of scrap wood. You can make more than one with different grits. Very useful!
